ReplyDeleteHello, My name is John O’Brien. I was stationed with the 54 Independent Field Squadron, 48 Ghurkha Infantry Brigade at Tai Lam, New Territories, from around October 1959 through to October 1962. Unfortunately I spent quite sometime on Stonecutter’s Island as I was, then, a bit of a naughty boy. Went out and returned to Southampton on HMT Oxfordshire, a great little ship. I also served in Kota Belud, Borneo from October 1960 until January 1961 when I returned to Hong Kong on either the Empire Gannet or the Empire Kittywake and we sailed on Friday 13th ...it was extremely rough. I finished my Army service at Cove in Hampshire from January 1962 until my discharge in 1964. I have very fond memories of my army service.
